As a candidate for the Collier County School Board, I am dedicated to ensuring that every student in our schools receives the highest quality education. To achieve this, we must revise many of CCPS’ current approaches and policies.
I am committed to moving CCPS away from its progressive educational framework and implementing a traditional educational model. This move will be essential in equipping our students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in their future endeavors, whether they be professional careers, vocational pathways, or household management. We need to refocus our curriculum on traditional educational methods that have proven track records. Incorporating “the latest research” should be done cautiously and only when its effectiveness has been unequivocally demonstrated.
The purpose of schooling is not to pass students along. We need to provide students and teachers with the right tools and environment for true educational success. This means expecting all students to meet at least grade-level expectations, without compromising standards.
In grades K-8, I advocate limiting the use of technology to one course per day. This approach aligns with the developmental needs of young students, emphasizing traditional learning tools such as paper, pencils, and books. In higher grades, we will gradually increase students’ exposure to technology, ensuring student fluency with technology, but never replacing teacher-led instruction. Additionally, while most of our students are familiar with basic computer applications, they lack a deeper understanding of technology. We will ensure that students are educated in the fundamental principles and mechanisms of technology so that they are able to compete in today’s marketplace and in that of the future.
Parents are sovereign over their children. As a board member, I will ensure total transparency in all aspects of our educational system. Parents must have the opportunity to opt out of certain educational content that could reasonably be considered controversial and that conflicts with the parents’ beliefs. I will always ensure that parents’ rights and choices are respected.
It's crucial that CCPS employees adhere to the established curriculum and Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Law. I will hold them accountable for any deviation from these standards.
As your representative on the School Board, I will advocate for an independent analysis of CCPS' budget, focusing on eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. This process may be modeled after the one currently underway by the Collier County Commissioners. I will ensure that every tax dollar is efficiently utilized to provide excellence in education for all Collier County students.
